Silent Films Return to Ithaca Ithaca reclaims its title as “The Film Capital” on Saturday, March 19, 2005 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm at The History Center with the debut of silent films from the newly released DVD “Beatrice Fairfax.”
The series, starring Harry Fox and Grace Darling, was based on actual letters from Beatrice’s “Advice to the Lovelorn” column originally published in the New York Evening Journal.
Episodes were filmed in Ithaca at the Wharton Brothers Studios once located at Renwick Park (now known as Stewart Park). Featured episodes from the DVD include “Billy’s Romance” and “A Name for Baby” from the DVD slated for September release.
“Viewers will particularly enjoy these episodes because of the familiar and easily recognizable Ithaca landmarks” says local Ithacan and silent film researcher Terry Harbin. The newly digitized and tinted DVD will be available for special purchase at the event and in The History Center bookstore.
The event is free and open to the public.
