Ithaca’s most famous movie actresses Pearl White and Irene Castle will be discussed at an Ithaca-Made Movies/Tompkins County Public Library co-sponsored event.
The date is Friday, August 26th from 2 pm – 3:30 pm in the library’s’ Borg Warner Community Room. Many photographs of both actresses will be on display.
People who remember or have stories about the two actresses are encouraged to attend..
Author Eve Golden will be present at the event. Eve is writing the Irene Castle biography and will be in town all week researching Irene’s local ties to Ithaca.
Author William Drew is writing the biography of Pearl White and he will be teleconferenced over the phone from his California home.
Eve and William are friends and have extensive knowledge about many silent film stars.
This event will include discussion about Pearl and Irene’s adventures working for The Wharton’s film studio. Did Pearl really get a speeding ticket in Trumansburg? Did she wear a wig? Did she do all her own stunts? What was her relationship with Cornell students and the local community?
Did Irene teach dancing to local people? Was she secretly married to Robert E. Treman? Did she have several pet monkeys that she walked around town?
What about her horseback riding and her involvement the 4H clubs?
Do you know other stories, if so please attend and let the authors hear your stories. Seniors of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Music video’s about both actresses will be presented as well as rare footage of Irene Castle and Pearl White.
These parts of Ithaca’s heritage still need to be documented for the upcoming books to be published.
Doors open at 1:45 pm. There is plenty of nearby parking available.
