MOVIE DIRECTOR
STILL WAITS FOR
COMPANY ARTISTS
--------
Theodore W. Wharton, the genial
managing director of the Essanay
Moving Picture Company, was
somewhat peeved today.
He was all ready to begin taking
the scenes of the photoplay
"The Hermit of Lonely Gulch."
but the dramatic company which
will portray the parts, did not
arrive from Chicago this morning.
Mr. Wharton expected them here
Wednesday but they were evidently
detained in Chicago on other pictures
at the Essanay studio.
In Fall Creek Gorge
"We cannot start taking pictures
until Monday," said Mr. Wharton
today. "After the company arrives
it will take them twenty-four hours
to get ready for the various scenes."
The photoplay, "The Hermit of Lonely
Gulch." will be taken in and about the
Fall Creek Gorge and Mr. Wharton
has arranged special scenic effects for
the film, which will be a double-reel one.
Mr. Wharton said today that the day
did not have to be a particularly light
one in order for him to secure good
moving pictures.
"I can take pictures in the rain,"
he said, adding "only it would be
uncomfortable work."
Local friends of Francis X. Bushman,
the versatile leading man of the
Essanay Company, who has been
here a week, were thinking today of
sending out a searching party for him.
Since he and Mr. Wharton with their
wives and families, took up possession
of their residences on Thurston Avenue,
he has not been downtown.
Everything Ready
Manager Wharton says that Mr. Bushman
is a "home man" in every sense of the words.
"Mr.Bushman has been busy as he could
for the past few days mowing lawns and
working around the house." said Wharton.
Mr. Wharton said there was a possibility
of the company arriving at noon today
or tonight or tomorrow. He has everything
ready to begin work.
